Energy saving
You will find important tips to save energy and money at home, even in work places.
Ceiling fan
  • The US Department of Energy recommends "use fans during the summer to create a wind chill effect that will make your home more comfortable. If you use air conditioning, a ceiling fan will allow you to raise the thermostat setting about 4°F with no reduction in comfort".
  • "Turn off kitchen, bath, and other ventilating fans within 20 minutes after you are done cooking or bathing to retain heated air".
Switch
  • Consider three-way lamps; they make it easier to keep lighting levels low when brighter light is not necessary.
  • Focus the light where you need it. For example, use fluorescent under-cabinet lighting for kitchen sinks and countertops under cabinets.
  • Turn off the lights in any room you're not using, or consider installing timers, photo cells, or occupancy sensors to reduce the amount of time your lights are on.
Energy saving bulb
  • Install fluorescent light fixtures for all ceiling- and wall-mounted fixtures that will be on for more than 2 hours each day.
  • Use Energy Star labeled lighting fixtures.
  • Consider light wall colors to minimize the need for artificial lighting.
  • Use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) in place of comparable incandescent bulbs to save about 50 percent on your lighting costs. CFLs use only one-fourth the energy and last up to 10 times longer.
Save money
  • Keep the area clear around your air conditioner. By doing this, you’re allowing your air conditioner to operate at peak efficiency because you don’t stress the motor. Stressing the motor makes it work harder, using more energy, and shortens its life.
  • Vacuum under your refrigerator. This allows your refrigerator to operate at peak efficiency.
